How to Georgia Track My Tax Refund?

1. Gather What You’ll Need :
In order to check the status of your tax refund, you’ll need information from your most recently filed income tax return
** Social Security number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
** Exact dollar amount of your tax refund

2. Track Your Tax Refund :
You can check the status of your tax refund online or by phone.
Online :
** You can use the DOR Georgia Tax Center online portal to check the status of your tax return. Follow the prompts to check your tax refund status. You do not need an account to check your refund status online.
** You can create or log in to your Georgia Tax Center online account to sign up for electronic notifications if you’d like to be notified when your return is filed and when your refund is issued.

By Phone :
Call the DOR automated telephone line at 877-423-6711 to check the status of your tax refund. Press option 2 (“Individual Income Tax Information”), then option 2 to inquire about the status of your refund. Follow the prompts to check your tax refund status.

3. Next Steps :
Your tax refund will be either electronically deposited into your bank account or mailed to you as a paper check. Most tax filers should expect to receive their refund electronically deposited into their bank account, unless otherwise noted on their returns. If you’re a first-time filer or have not filed in 5 or more years, you may receive a paper refund check in the mail.

What is Georgia Tax Refund?

** You get a tax refund when you pay more income taxes than you owe. After you file your state income tax return, you can track the status of your tax refund online or by phone with the Georgia Department of Revenue.
** Tax refund processing times vary and depend on the accuracy of the original return, but you’ll get your refund more quickly if you file your tax return electronically. Most refunds are issued within 21 days of the return being received. However, the process may take up to 90 days.
** If your tax refund issue involves a deceased taxpayer, a lost, stolen, or stale-dated check, or a changed name, contact the Department of Revenue for assistance.

How to Pay Estimated Tax?

1. Determine How Much Estimated Tax You Need to Pay
The amount of estimated tax you need to pay depends on the amount of income you reasonably think you’ll earn during the year. If you’re not sure what amount to pay, the Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) provides a schedule for computing your estimated tax as well as a tax rate schedule in its Tax Booklet.

2. Decide If You Want to Pay in Full or in Quarterly Installments
You have two options for paying your estimated tax. You can pay it all at once when you make your first required installment, or you can pay it in quarterly installments during the year. If you pay in installments, each one is due on or before April 15, June 15, September 15, and the following January 15.

3. Choose How to Make Your Payment
You can pay your estimated tax electronically with DOR, by mail, or in person.
Pay electronically directly with DOR :
** Use the Georgia Tax Center (GTC), the DOR’s secure electronic self-service portal, to manage and pay your estimated tax.
** If you’re not yet registered with the GTC, simply follow the instructions GTC provides to create an account.
** Fill out and submit any required forms.
** Follow all instructions to complete the forms and be sure to verify that all your information is correct before submitting.
** Pay your estimated tax via one of the payment options provided.

Pay by mail or in person :
** Paying your estimated tax electronically is the fastest method. However, you can pay by mail or in person using an estimated tax payment voucher.
** If you do not already have a voucher, create one using the 500-ES Individual and Fiduciary Estimated Tax Payment Voucher form.
** Follow all instructions on the form and be sure to verify that all your information is correct before submitting.
** To pay by mail, follow the instructions provided in the form.
** To pay in person, you will need to schedule an appointment with the DOR.

4. Next Steps
If you’ve paid all your estimated tax at once, you will not need to make any additional payments for the tax year. If you’ve chosen to pay in quarterly installments, be sure to continue to make payments when they are due (on or before April 15, June 15, September 15, and the following January 15).
