What is VEP?
Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) is a permit issued by the Road Transport Department (under Section 66H of the Road Transport Act 1987) that allows the entry of foreign vehicles into Malaysia. It is MANDATORY that all foreign registered vehicles entering Peninsular Malaysia be registered online for VEP through this portal.
The affected vehicle ownership categories are:
** Private (vehicles owned by individuals, companies or organizations for private usage)
** Commercial (vehicles owned by companies and used for business purposes); and
** Embassy / Government (vehicles owned by governments, consulates or embassies)
** VEP registered vehicles will be issued non-transferrable VEP-RFID tags which contain pertinent information that uniquely identifies the vehicles. You will be contacted by email on how to collect your VEP-RFID tag when you have registered for the VEP.

Private :
** The VEP RFID tag can be applied through this VEP portal by following the easy guide provided.
** The VEP is valid for 5 years. Vehicle owners are strongly encouraged to renew their VEP 6 months before the expiry date.
** Prior to entering Malaysia, vehicle owners must ensure that their vehicles have a valid VEP and all pertinent information such as Road Tax, Insurance, International Circulation Permit (ICP) or/and Certificate of Entitlement (COE) is updated.
** If there is a change in vehicle ownership, the transferee (buyer) must ensure that the transferor (seller) deregister the vehicle from the system.
** It is an offence for a foreign-registered vehicle to overstay in Malaysia. If the vehicle needs to be in Malaysia beyond 3 calendar months, vehicle owners or their representatives must inform the Road Transport Department, Malaysia and Custom offices of their plan to extend their period of stay.
** The payment and collection method of VEP RFID tag can be done after registration at vepams.jpj.gov.my.
** Persons With Disability (PWD) must have their relevant certificates with them.
** The distribution of VEP-RFID tags will first be rolled out to privately owned/registered motor vehicles excluding motorcycle. However, the owner of motorcycles, commercial/goods vehicles and public service vehicles must also register for VEP.
** The installation of VEP-RFID tags involving these vehicle categories will take place at a later date which will be informed through an e-mail notification.
Commercial :
The distribution of VEP-RFID tags will first be rolled out to privately owned/registered motor vehicles excluding motorcycle. However, the owner of motorcycles, commercial/goods vehicles and public service vehicles must also register for VEP. The installation of VEP-RFID tags involving these vehicle categories will take place at a later date which will be informed through an e-mail notification.
What is VEP RFID Tag?
The VEP tag consists of RFID chip and antenna. The tags are pre-printed with custom images and tag serial numbers which are unique for each registered vehicle;
Security Features :
** VEP-RFID tag adopts EPC Gen2v2 standard which provides a series of features intended to improve security and deter the counterfeiting of tagged items, by enabling the authentication of a tag or reader, and includes privacy features for consumers.
** Modern authentication protocols and algorithms are employed to prevent duplication or cloning of the VEP-RFID tag.
** As a security measure, the VEP-RFID Tag is designed with anti-peel and tamper proof features. Once attached to the exterior surface of the headlamp, the VEP-RFID tag cannot be removed, otherwise the tag will no longer be functional.
